Involving a mingle, Christmas sing-a-long and a Lucia concert, the event provides the newcomers with an introduction to Swedish Christmas traditions.

“International employees are highly important for the region. It’s not only for the skills, knowledge and new ideas they bring to our businesses and universities, but also for the culture and diversity they bring into our society,” says Lovisa Bohlin, who works with international competence at Business Region Göteborg, and was one of the speakers at the event.

“We hope that they feel very welcome in our region,” she adds.

Deputy Lord Mayor Jahja Zeqiraj was another of the speakers and welcomed attendees on behalf of the City of Gothenburg.

Kajsa Svensson, a trainer in intercultural competence, also shared her experiences and offered advice. Her take-home message was:

“Adapt without losing yourself.”

The Expat Christmas Event is arranged by Business Region Göteborg in collaboration with Move to Gothenburg and the City of Gothenburg. The aim of the event is to welcome newly arrived international professionals and their families to Gothenburg and provide them with an opportunity to connect with compatriots and other international workers based in the region.
