Strategic hub for transport
With the sea at its doorstep, Gothenburg was an important hub for trade already in the 1700s. Today the Gothenburg region has Sweden’s leading logistics position, thanks to the Port of Gothenburg and Landvetter Airport.
The Gothenburg region’s steadily increasing population, combined with growing purchasing power means good opportunities for retail businesses. Today there are over 27,000 full-time employees within retail and turnover in 2015 totalled 64 billion kronor.
At the same time, Gothenburg has seen strong growth in its tourism industry. During 2013, tourism’s effect on retail was estimated to be 10 billion kronor.
