More than two thirds of the employed in Gothenburg region work in the private sector

Gothenburg region had approximately 491,000 persons employed in 2017. Compared to 2016 the annual employment growth indicates an increase of 2 percent.

About 70 percent of the employed persons in the Gothenburg region work in the private sector. This corresponds to nearly 342,000 employed persons. Out of these, approximately 248,000 are employed in private Swedish-owned companies and the remaining 94,000 are employed in private foreign-owned companies. The municipality employs nearly one sixth of the employees in the Gothenburg region. Most of the employment growth in recent years has occurred within the private sector.
